The Woman Behind Silva Verde — A Story of Roots, Science & Purpose

I didn't set out to build a skincare brand. I set out to understand skin — and somewhere along the way, the two became the same thing.

My name is Victoria, and I'm the founder and formulator behind Silva Verde. I'm a pharmacist and biotechnologist with a specialization in cosmetic formulation, but before any of that, I was a curious child standing behind a counter in my family's apothecary, blending plant extracts and presenting them to customers like they were the most important thing in the world. To me, they were.

From the Lab to the Land

My academic path took me through pharmacy school, where I wrote my graduation thesis on Spirulina platensis — a microalgae with remarkable anti-aging and antioxidant properties. That research lit a fire in me that never went out.

I went on to study Biotechnology, worked in genetic research at a medical university in the United States, and later spent years in industrial food science — mastering the art and science of sensory formulation at scale. Over time, I channelled all of that knowledge into my true calling: cosmetic formulation. Every chapter taught me something different: precision, patience, and the extraordinary intelligence hidden inside natural molecules.

Coming Home to Madeira

When I returned to Madeira — the island my family is from — I started working in a community pharmacy. What I saw there changed everything.

Patient after patient came in with skin in crisis: eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, inflammation. Modern life had disconnected people from nature, and their skin was showing it.

One evening, sleeping under the stars while helping clear a wild piece of land on the island from my family, something clicked. The answer wasn't more chemicals. It was fewer. It was going back.

I started formulating from my kitchen — artisanal soaps and creams built on a simple truth: nature already has the answers. I think about it this way — why does the Earth grow Aloe vera in the harshest deserts? Because nature designs the exact cure for the environment it creates. We are not separate from that system. We are part of it.

Why Silva Verde Exists

Silva Verde was born from that belief. Every product I create is waterless, concentrated, and free from synthetic preservatives — not as a marketing claim, but because that's what the science and the philosophy both demand.

We are incredibly mindful about what we eat — yet most of us give little thought to what we put on our skin. The truth is, what you apply to your body matters just as much as what you put in it.
